The thought of performing a do-it-yourself (DIY) inspection of your home may seem like a daunting task. However, this is an integral part of being a homeowner to ensure not just the value of your property, but also the safety of your family.  This means creating a checklist and figuring out which parts of your home you can’t ignore. Here are 8 checklists to get you started.

1. Look at the Walls

You should look at the walls throughout your house and make sure they don’t have any problems. This includes checking them for any new holes, marks, or scratches, so you can take care of them accordingly. Even though this may seem unnecessary, those blemishes can quickly add up on your walls.

Make sure you also check the ceilings while you look at the walls, so you can make sure you identify any potential problems.

2. Check Your Bathrooms

You should spend some time checking your bathrooms for any leaks or similar issues. For example, you may notice some plumbing issues with your toilet, tub, or even under the sink. If you find any leaks or similar problems, you can immediately seek professional plumbing repair to fix any issues you may face from your bathroom.

People need to maintain their bathrooms, so make sure you put this one on your inspection list.

3. Go Through Your Kitchen

You should also check out your kitchen to ensure everything works in it. This means you can check the fridge to see if it stays cold, go through the microwave, check the oven and the stove. You can also take a look at the floor and make sure everything looks great without any damages or cracks.

People focus on the kitchen, so you should do your best to keep it in excellent condition.

4. Ensure You Proper Air Conditioning

Air conditioning stands out as an important appliance to have in your home, so you should check the units. You should go through the trouble of checking each one and turning them on to make sure they work. 5. Maintain Your Heater

This involves turning on the heater and ensuring it goes to each room in the house to keep the entire place warm.

6. Make Sure Your Doors and Windows Work

Some people forget to check the doors and windows in their home, so take your time with these points. You should make sure all the doors close and lock properly to prevent people from breaking in. You can then go to your windows and make sure they open and lock without any issues.

You need to also ensure they seal themselves properly, so you don’t end up with any of the air leaking out.

7. Review Your Garage

You may want to also consider going through your garage and checking it for problems. This involves checking your garage door to make sure it goes up and down properly. You can also look at the floor and ceiling to make sure everything looks good. For example, you may notice some oil stains or tire marks on the ground after a while.

You should also take your belongings out of your garage to check the space.

8. Take Notes of the Outside

Checking your home also involves going through the outside of it to see if you find any issues. For example, you should look at the walls, check the roof and also go through your driveway. You may find some unexpected issues with your land or even with your front porch, so make sure you check all of it.
