Becoming a mom has to be one of the most beautiful, magical (straining) and gratifying experiences in the world. Still, leaving maternity clothes behind, slowly returning to your former self, figure-wise, holds a level of gratification of its own, and it is not an insignificant part of being a new mom. Now that your baby is here and those maternity pants are out of the picture, you are slowly starting to feel normal again. This is the perfect time to reinvent your wardrobe and start feeling sexy, sophisticated and even a bit vampy again. Let us follow these tips, and take baby steps, pun intended.

Conquer the Transition Period

At that time when your body has not yet returned to its original state, shopping for your figure can be a hassle, but it does not have to be. Ditch the sweatpants and go for flowy, drapey tops and dresses that have strategically places ruching as to provide a camouflage to the tummy area. You can even try finding dresses for sale if you do not feel like spending a fortune on transition clothes.

Trick your Body

In one scene, Miranda (Sex and the City) says “I have tricked my body into thinking that it’s thinner –  spanx!” Do not shy away from resorting to shapewear. It makes everything look smoother and fit better, and you can even pull of a pencil skirt. Just be aware that your body is still recovering, so do not choose undergarments that have too much compression power.

Don’t Ditch the Elastic-Waist Jeans

If you have a perfectly nice pair of boyfriend jeans that have that kangaroo-pouch that was so great during pregnancy, do not throw them out just yet. The remains of the belly will not go away as soon as the baby comes, and if the cut and texture of the jeans is hip and nice, just wear a longer oversized shirt and you will look like the coolest new mom. If you feel like it, throw in a nice blazer into the combo.

If You’ve Got it, Flaunt it

One thing is certain, after the baby, you will have the cleavage of your dreams, so use that to your advantage. There is no reason to go for plunging, but a V-neck wrap dress (with spanx underneath) will make you look sexy and so confident.

New Mom’s Dream Shoes

As a new mom, you cannot be expected to wear stilettos or platforms while carrying a baby in your arms or a diaper bag on your shoulder. New moms are probably the reason why ankle boots with a low block heel were invented. They are stylish, hip, yet comfortable enough to navigate that shopping outing or a stroll with the baby around the park.

Accessories on Point

There might be some items out there you are not yet ready to pull off, but accessories are luckily not one of them. There are great-looking solid-shaped totes and satchels, even classy-looking diaper bags out there that can elevate your look. When speaking of jewelry, turn to fabulous bracelets and longer necklaces which end at your cleavage or lower, as these create an elongating illusion, making you look slimmer.

Do not Forsake Hair and Makeup

Being a new mom is taxing, exhausting and leaves little room for mommy time. Still, do your best to find time to color and style your hair, and apply just a touch of makeup. We know you have dark circles from lack of sleep, but there are tiny things you can do to still make yourself look presentable, gorgeous even, with minimum effort.
